The annual award, which was presented during the organization’s annual workforce summit, will be renamed in Elsener’s honor.
“There’s not much in education and workforce preparation that Dan Elsener hasn’t done. He’s been a teacher and principal,” said Chamber CEO Kevin Brinegar. “He’s raised the profile and elevated the mission of the institution. Under his leadership, Marian University’s enrollment has quadrupled and various programs have been created and expanded – including building medical and engineering schools – that have provided students with more career paths.”
Elsener, who is a member of the Indiana State Board of Education, has served as Marian’s president for the last 21 years.
“Dan Elsener is simply one of the most dynamic and passionate leaders in the education and workforce space that I’ve ever met,” said Brinegar. “He’s engaged. He’s tenacious. He’s a driver of action. When it comes to K-12 and higher education, he’s a true innovator. And we are honored and very pleased to have him as a longtime co-chair of the Indiana Chamber’s Education and Workforce Policy Committee. He’s very issue focused and has helped us strengthen our public policy efforts.”
Earlier this year, the chamber named its inaugural list of the Hoosier State’s “Best Places to Work in Manufacturing.”
