Central Indiana Home Building Permits Increase in August

The nine-county Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis says single-family home building permits rose in August and continue to increase year-to-date. Last month, 595 were issued in central Indiana, compared to 521 in August 2016. Through the first eight months of the year, 4,266 permits have been issued, compared to 3,981 at the same point last year.

BAGI Chief Executive Officer Steve Lains says "housing brings growth of all types: commercial, retail, and industrial – bringing with it new jobs and additional tax revenues for the community. We particularly see this kind of growth in communities like Hamilton County, yet again pulling in the most permits this month." More than 1,500 permits were issued for Hamilton County projects and nearly 750 permits were pulled in Marion County last month, the two highest totals of the group. Morgan County and Johnson County, with 25 percent and 20 percent increases, respectively, had the biggest August jumps year-over-year of anyone.

BAGI estimates the economic impact of the projects in August to be nearly $764 million in local income and more than $173 million in local taxes, creating 12,935 jobs.
