The utility says the array, scheduled to be in service by 2023, will be able to generate enough power for more than 50,000 homes annually.
The project is being co-developed by Arevon Energy Management, an affiliate of Switzerland-based Capital Dynamics, and Nebraska-based Tenaska. In addition to construction of the array itself, the project will include a new sub-station to interconnect with CenterPoint’s power grid.
Additionally, the IURC has approved CenterPoint’s power purchase agreement to acquire an additional 100 megawatts of energy from another solar project in Warrick County, which is being developed by Idaho-based Clenera.
“We’re pleased to receive regulatory approval to move forward with these significant renewable resources, which will serve our local electric customers, providing a cost-effective, stable energy option,” said Steve Greenley, senior vice president of Indiana electric operations for CenterPoint Energy. “We look forward to the continued work with these companies to bring the Posey County solar array to fruition and provide additional clean energy to our customers through the Warrick County PPA.”
CenterPoint says the power from the Warrick County solar array, which is also expected to be in service by 2023, will generate enough power to meet the needs of more than 18,000 homes per year.
