The organization says the facility exemplifies its mission to promote sustainable use of the world’s resources.
The CEC says the center will expand its capacity for environmental programs, serve as a community gathering space and be a teaching tool for sustainable living in the region. The organization is also looking for the building to obtain a "Living Building" certification, which it says comes with the most rigorous green building standards in the world. To date, only seven buildings in the country have received the certification.
The dedication ceremony for the Sustainable Education Center will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a ceremonial tree planting, followed by an open house from 5:00 to 8:00. The event is free and open to the public.
