“We have enhanced the percentage of Hoosiers who have a college degree or an industry-recognized credential by about 10%, and by my estimate, that’s an additional 500,000 Hoosiers,” said Chamber President Kevin Brinegar. “But yet we still rank 38th among the 50 states and we trail nearly all of these nine surrounding and competitor states and that‘s cause for concern and will point to needed action in the 2021 session of the Indiana General Assembly and beyond.”
Brinegar talked about the findings of the biennial report on this weekend’s edition of Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick.
The report card compares Indiana with its Midwest counterparts and five other competitor states – Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina, Tennessee and Utah – based on 32 metrics, including public high school graduation rates, per capita income, and state and local spending.
“It’s challenging to make absolute progress, but it’s particularly challenging to make relative progress, compared to other states that are moving forward, and that’s why it’s important to keep our foot on the gas.”
