Carter joined Senator Joe Donnelly (D-IN) to learn about work performed at the installation, which he described as "significant for our national security."
Carter received briefings on the facility’s mission focus areas: expeditionary warfare, strategic missions and electronic warfare. He also toured the Rapid Innovation Prototype Lab.
"They do things that range from our nuclear deterrent, which is the bedrock of our security, to supporting today’s warfighter – who are protecting us and our people and our country right now, today, tonight around the world – to high tech, but incredibly important areas for our future like electronic warfare, trusted microcircuits, all of these advanced technologies without which the finest fighting force the world has ever known can’t remain that way," said Carter.
Carter said places like Crane NSWC are essential, not only for the innovations they produce but also the work they do to make sure current technologies being used are sustained and improved upon as needed. He said Crane has a bright future, "because it is so many areas of technology that are critical to our country’s future and because it has a way of operating, which is being rapid and close to operational need. That is exactly what we need."
