The partners say the service will benefit residents of Flora as well as underserved areas of southern Carroll County.
In addition to the broadband investment, Mulberry Telecommunications plans to build a facility in Flora. The building is scheduled for completion in 2023.
“The Flora Town Council is very excited to have Mulberry Telecommunications become a part of our community,” said Darrell Yoder, president of the Flora Town Council. “Our council is proud to announce that Mulberry will start the construction of their new office building in Flora this spring and has already started installing the infrastructure to provide the Town of Flora with fiber internet with speeds up to 1 gigabit. It will be an essential improvement for the town.”
According to the Carroll County Economic Development Corp., the county does not have a comprehensive residential fiber-optic network.
“The need for rural broadband services continues to be the focal point for our local communities,” said Greg Maish, chief executive officer of Mulberry Telecommunications. “We see similar qualities between Flora and Mulberry and believe we can help the town take a leap forward in their quality of life.”
The project will help community members access telehealth services, as well as virtual learning and remote work opportunities.
