Carmel Tops ‘Best Cities to Live’ List

Subscribe NowA New York-based online publication ranks Carmel number one among "America’s 50 Best Cities to Live." 24/7 Wall St. compiled the list based on data from a number of categories, including crime, education and infrastructure.
The cities on the list are among nearly 600 reported has having populations of more than 65,000 in 2016 by the U.S. Census Bureau. Some of the other criteria used to rank the cities include demography, economy, environment, health, housing and leisure.
The publication cites Carmel’s low poverty rate of 3.9 percent, high median home value of $315,200 and low crime rate among the reasons for the Hamilton County city topping the list.
"The results of this statistical analysis show us that we are on the right track by investing in our community and providing amenities that have helped us succeed on a number of levels," said Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard. "We have always strived to do things differently in Carmel, to be innovative in our approach to the quality of life and its importance to economic development, which is why we continue to be recognized nationally while keeping our tax rates the lowest of any major city in Indiana."
