Haven Technologies was founded in 2015 by Pete Murphy, who started the company after working for years at Fortune 200 companies like 3M, Dow and Honeywell, and decided he wanted to go the entrepreneurial route. Haven has developed ISOtunes, which has seen $10 million in sales and the company has plans for further growth.
Murphy talked about the genesis of the company and its future plans on Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick.
“I thought before I retire, I wanted to do something on my own,” said Murphy. “I always have had an innovative flare and wanted to sort of scratch that itch.”
ISOtunes are in-ear and over-the-ear devices that provide noise cancellation, while allowing users to stay connected to their phone. Haven says the products have shown to increase productivity and promote connectivity.
“It came on at a time when Bluetooth innovation was just coming up and it offered and opportunity for people to work in noisy environments, but stay connected to their phone,” said Murphy. “If you were cutting your grass, for example, our devices do a great job of blocking out the noise from the mower and allow you just to stream music and if you got a phone call, the music stops, the phone rings in the headset. Then you can talk on the phone without a problem and the person on the other end of the line can’t hear the mower because of the noise canceling technology.”
Haven says the ISOtunes products have applications in industries such as advanced manufacturing, construction and telecommunications, but the company is looking to expand its reach within the next month.
“We’re introducing a line of products called ISOtunes Sport, which are going to be targeted toward the sport shooting and range shooting and competitive shooting-type places,” Murphy said. “In that environment, it’s obviously very loud, so that’s very appropriate for us and the type of technology that we have allows it to electronically block off that loud noise, but allows you to continue to talk to the people beside you.”
Murphy started Haven out of his Carmel home with his wife and his son, but the company has since grown to more than 20 employees. He says the company is also looking to expand into other areas of safety.
“First and foremost, we’re a safety products company and we’re looking for other areas to bring some technology, whether that be safety glasses, hard hats, respirators, other areas where we can add some value for the end users.”
