While financial terms were not disclosed, the personal defense technology company said the move is in response to an “unprecedented surge” in demand.
Based in Andover, Massachusetts, Byrna manufactures “less-lethal” personal security products, including pistols and rifles that shoot pellets, as well as defense sprays and backpack body armor.
The company said it has increased its production facility personnel by 25%, though a specific number of new employees or a total employee headcount was not provided. A second assembly line has been opened as well.
Byrna did not respond to a request for more information from Inside INdiana Business.
In a news release, CEO Bryan Ganz said the increase in demand is the result of a recent expansion of the company’s celebrity influencer network, which has led to upswings in web traffic and sales.
“Expanding our manufacturing capacity is imperative if we hope to be able to meet this rising demand and provide seamless delivery to our valued customers,” Ganz said. “Additionally, this move is expected to positively influence our profit margins over time by reducing production costs through economies of scale and refining our operational processes.”
The company said the new employees were hired in late January and are now supporting the new line after undergoing on-the-job training.
