Student-athletes and those providing support to the Butler athletic program are already prohibited from engaging in sports wagering by NCAA rules.
The new policy is effective immediately.
The university made this move in response to the legalization of betting on NCAA Division I sports in Indiana.
Butler says the policy attempts to help protect Butler teams, student-athletes, and coaches from undue influence and improper conduct.
“Our Sports Wagering Policy, which is supported by our Board of Trustees, is a proactive measure rooted in our commitment to and support of our student-athletes and our athletic programs,” said Butler President James Danko.
In October, Purdue University’s Board of Trustees approved a similar policy on sports wagering.
