Quinn Buckner, who currently serves as vice president of communications for Pacers Sports and Entertainment, become the first African American to hold the position.
Buckner has served on the board since 2016. He is a graduate of the Kelley School of Business at IU and was part of the university’s undefeated men’s basketball team in 1976. He also captained the U.S. men’s Olympic basketball team that same year and won a gold medal.
“I am most familiar with the dynamics of a team,” Buckner told the trustees during the board’s organizational meeting last week. “We’re all better when we do what we’re responsible for. So let’s all work together to ensure IU’s success.”
Additionally, the board’s nominating committee elected MaryEllen Kiley Bishop as the board’s vice chair. Bishop, who is a partner at Cohen Gerelick & Glazier in Indianapolis, was first elected to the board in 2010.
