Jarrad and Jason Oakley had been producing beer and wine for years, but being natives of Madisonville, Kentucky, they knew liquor would be in their futures. They opened Oakley Brothers’ Distillery in Edgewood in 2013, but when a building became available in Anderson, the brothers jumped on it to be part of a rebirth of the city’s downtown.
Mary-Rachel Redman visited the distillery, where the brothers are continuing to cook up growth plans.
Oakley Brothers’ Distillery opened in the former Norton Law office building in downtown Anderson, which had housed a car dealership and livery in previous lives, in 2018.
The family-owned distillery now includes a cocktail bar, lounge and growing production facility, which is pumping out a variety of whiskey products, including Mullet Head Bourbon.
The distillery is also the first in Indiana to be licensed to legally sell moonshine. Jarrad says Oakley Brothers’ Indiana Moon Apple Pie moonshine is “selling by the pallet.”
