(NYSE: BWA) has announced plans to consolidate its Indiana Technical Centers in Anderson and Pendleton into one facility in Noblesville. The city says the company will invest $28 million into the facility, bringing more than 300 high-wage jobs to Hamilton County.
BorgWarner will begin construction on the two-story, 100,000 square-foot facility in June with construction expected to be complete in the spring of 2018. The city says the facility will combine research and development, testing, prototype building, engineering and design work under one roof.
"Consolidating our engineering and testing under one roof is just the beginning. Like other BorgWarner technical centers, the new facility will feature an open concept design with interactive office environments and spontaneous collaboration zones to improve efficiency, enhance communication and inspire innovation," said Stefan Demmerle, president of BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems. "Noblesville is a highly desirable area that is centrally located for our current workforce and will also help us attract new employees as we continue to grow."
BorgWarner says its work force will transition to the new facility as the leases on its current buildings expire over the next few years.
The facility will be located at 141st Street and Olio Road along the I-69 corridor. The city has agreed to make improvements to 141st Street and build a private road south from 141st Street, extend sanitary sewer and stormwater improvements and build a retention pond.
A development agreement between BorgWarner and the city of Noblesville will be considered by the Noblesville Common Council next week. If approved, BorgWarner will receive up to $3.8 million in incentives and the city will reimburse the company for more than $300,000 in road and sewer impact fees.
