The organization says the goal of the program is to assist Boone County small businesses in developing digital strategies to improve their customer facing and back-office functions.
The economic development organization says it conducted a survey to assess the digital landscape for small businesses in the county.
It found only 12% of the small businesses made 41-60% of their sales online. The survey also revealed 38% of small businesses surveyed were unsure of how many sales they made online.
The Boone County EDC says that means small businesses are missing out on potential sales or interacting with residents.
To counter the potential losses, the Boone EDC is proposing a digital upgrade program to help assist small businesses in developing digital strategies and increasing sales through ecommerce adoption.
The successful proposer will work directly with the Boone EDC for all activities involved with the project, such as development of the application process for businesses seeking grants. They will also assist with technical support for the businesses that receive awards.
The EDC says the preferred vendor will be selected and announced on Feb. 7. Once the vendor is selected, the grant process will begin. It will open on Feb. 20 and close on March 10.
