Doug Boles says hooking up with Red Bull for next week’s inaugural Air Race World Championship in Indianapolis brings along a high-profile product, as well as "a great marketing company" with global reach. In an interview with Inside INdiana Business, Boles says discussions about hosting the high-speed, aerobatic race at the famed venue have taken place for some time.
Boles says Red Bull has teams based in the U.S. and throughout the world and the energy drink maker is also excited about the event. "The other thing is, it’s fall in Indiana, the weather’s generally very, very nice, so we felt like it could work pretty well and it’s far enough away from some of our other events that people more traditionally associate with us."
The race in Indianapolis is the seventh race on the global circuit. The IMS version takes place between other events in Germany and Las Vegas. Competitors can reach speeds in excess of 230 miles per hour over the course of training and qualifying and competition rounds of 14, then eight, then a final four competitors. Training session will be Thursday and Friday, followed by Saturday qualifications and race day on Sunday.
