Board of Animal Health removes ‘interim’ tag for new state veterinarian

Subscribe NowThe Indiana State Board of Animal Health voted this week to appoint Kyle Shipman as the new State Veterinarian. Shipman had served in the role on an interim basis since October after Bret Marsh stepped down.
Hoosier Ag Today reported that Gov. Eric Holcomb will allow Gov.-elect Mike Braun to formally approve the appointment after he is sworn into office next week.
Prior to being named interim state veterinarian, Shipman served as director of the Board of Animal Health’s Animal Program Division.
A graduated of Purdue University, Shipman is a USDA-certified Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostician. The Board of Animal Health said he played a key role in the agency’s response to the avian influenza event in Dubois County in 2016.
Bret Marsh stepped down as state veterinarian to become dean of Purdue’s College of Veterinary Medicine and CEO of the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital.
