Bloomington and Monroe County Foundation Annual Update
The Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County is among the key players involved in the region-wide efforts.

In 2017, the foundation says, its endowment grew to $30.9 million, adding 12 new funds. It received $1 million in gifts over the last year and now counts a total of 217 funds.
Chief Executive Tina Peterson says "the vehicle for change that the Community Foundation is entrusted to steer has many seats – each one filled by individuals, families, and businesses who have a passion for this community. Those passions are diverse – arts, animals, education, essential needs, community development, youth development, those with disabilities, and the environment. Fortunately, our bus is a big one, and there are seats available for all who wish to be the change they want to see in our community."
During a presentation summarizing the year that was, Peterson discussed some of the foundation’s key leadership initiatives, which include expanding early childhood education opportunities, responding to the opioid crisis and advancing southwest central Indiana regional economic and workforce initiatives.
Last year, the foundation launched Regional Opportunities Initiatives Inc., a separate organization created to support economic and community prosperity throughout the 11-county region. ROI is funded by a $26.5 million Lilly Endowment Inc. grant and is collaborating with key industries in the region, including advanced manufacturing, life sciences and national security and defense.
