This weekend’s Fishers Farmers’ Market will include nearly 20 youth vendors as part of Biz Kids Entrepreneurial Day. Launch Fishers founder John Wechsler, who will help coach the kids, says children are "naturally resourceful, naturally creative and naturally industrious," making them ideal entrepreneurs. Among Saturday’s shoppers will be Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness, who says, "I’m bringing my wallet."
Fadness says the event plays into his and Wechsler’s shared goal of making entrepreneurship a dinner table conversation in Fishers. Wechsler says the best way to build a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem is from the inside out, which makes engaging young people crucial to the city’s future growth. He says he coached the kids on some of the basics of entrepreneurship, from how to communicate what their product is about to how to price what they are selling.
Biz Kids Entrepreneurial Day is part of Saturday’s Fishers Farmers’ Market at the city’s Nickel Plate District. The kids will be joining more than 55 vendors who host booths weekly. The city says the young entrepreneurs will be selling products ranging from baked goods to recycled artwork and hand-made soaps.
