BiomEdit, which spun out of Elanco Animal Health Inc. (NYSE: ELAN) in Greenfield last April, said the partners aim to develop novel feed additives for livestock using microbiome technology.
The company said in a news release the goal is to address the “health and sustainability challenges of today’s animal producers for aquaculture, poultry, swine and cattle.”
BiomEdit develops new products derived from microbiomes that are designed to promote animal health without the use of antibiotics. CEO Aaron Schacht said microbiome science has major potential.
“By leveraging BiomEdit’s advanced microbiome discovery platform and bench of deep experts together with Nutreco’s expertise and commercial deployment capabilities, we will launch novel feed additive products that address some of the most important problems in animal health, sustainability and food security,” Schacht said in written remarks. “This broad strategic alliance with Nutreco is unique in our industry and plays to the strengths of both companies.” Together, we will drive innovation and raise customer expectations for the impact of novel feed additives in livestock production systems.”
Nutreco CEO Fulco van Lede said the partnership with BiomEdit fits perfectly with his company’s long-term strategy and will benefit all of Nutreco’s businesses.
The partnership is BiomEdit’s first commercial partnership since its launch last year with $40 million in Series A funding.
Last June, the company announced it was establishing its headquarters in Fishers and hire a “substantial amount” of employees over several years.
