Terry King, who has served in the role on an interim basis on two separate occasions, told the Ball State Board of Trustees Friday he will step down this summer.
King postponed his retirement in January 2016 following the sudden resignation of former President Paul Ferguson. King also served as provost and executive vice president of academic affairs at Ball State.
"On behalf of the Board of Trustees at Ball State University, we appreciate Terry King and his tremendous service to the university," the university said in a statement. "Dr. King’s personal sacrifice demonstrates the loyalty he has shown for more than 10 years of service to Ball State in various roles including his most recent as Interim President. Dr. King will be missed. We wish him the very best in his retirement."
King also served as interim president during the transition period between the tenures of Jo Ann Gora and Ferguson. The board of trustees named Geoffrey Mearns the school’s 17th president in January. His tenure will begin in August.
The board also Friday approved two new degree programs. The bachelor of architecture and master of social work degrees still require approval from the Indiana Commission of Higher Education.
