Skally’s Old World Bakery says it will invest $40 million to construct and equip a bread production facility in West Harrison.
Skally’s says it will begin construction on the 350,000 square-foot facility in March and hire for production line, quality assurance and information technology positions in 2017. The company currently employs 96 workers.
The Skally family created Old World Bakery in 1977 in Cincinnati, originally focusing on pita bread. It added a bagel line in 1981. Skally’s says it now bakes and packages 24,000 bagels and 10,000 loaves of pita every hour.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered Skally’s Old World Bakery up to $900,000 in conditional tax credits based on its job creation plans. The organization says Indiana averages $11.2 billion in annual agricultural sales, ranking 10th in the nation.
