Our partners at WPTA-TV report Aunt Millie’s bakery will move into the former Star Bank headquarters by the end of April after more than 80 years in its current location.
Director of Marketing Melissa Koeneman said the new location at 6230 Bluffton Road will accommodate the company’s growth.
“[It’s] twice the size of our current corporate space,” Koeneman told WPTA. “This building is very segmented, and this is going to be a more open area. So you’re going to have a lot more just direct collaboration and involvement with coworkers.”
The new location will also have space for a research and development lab, Koeneman said.
One question remains is what will become of the iconic revolving bread sign that sits atop the current facility at 350 Pearl Street.
Koeneman said the sign, which was installed in 1957, will continue to spin at the building for the time being.
“Aunt Millie’s has retained ownership of the sign, and Surak Real Estate has graciously agreed to let it remain on the current building for a period of time,” Aunt Millie’s CEO John Popp said in written remarks. “At some point, if they decide it no longer fits their plans, we will gladly remove it and relocate it to a place that is permitted by the city and zoning officials.”
Company officials added that no jobs will be affected by the move to the new location.
