IU Health has awarded $487,500 over three years to The Arc of Indiana Foundation’s Erskine Green Training Institute (EGTI) to create a workforce training program at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
The Erskine Green Training Institute currently offers vocational training to people with disabilities through the Lacy Family Healthcare Program at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
Participants in the program receive onsite job training for positions in nutrition services, environmental services, patient transport and more. Students are also trained in soft skills like effective communication, teamwork and workplace etiquette.
More than 30 of the program’s graduates have taken jobs at IU Health sites across Indiana. Students in the Indianapolis program will attend classes and gain hands-on work experience through an internship.
“EGTI’s unique training program has seen great success,” Arc of Indiana Foundation Executive Director Andy Kirby said in a news release. “Over 80% of EGTI graduates have secured employment in communities throughout Indiana. We look forward to a long partnership with Riley to build on this success in the Indianapolis area.”
In addition to Ball Memorial Hospital, the EGTI has provided training in the hospitality industry based out of the Courtyard by Marriott in Muncie since 2016.
