MUNCIE, Ind. – College athletes practice for their sports. Musicians rehearse their music. Now, collegians can use the newest digital technology prepare for a job interview.
Be Employed When You Graduate: The App helps students nail job interviews and negotiate effectively to get the most from the new position.
Created by Jonathan Blake Huer, director of emerging technologies at Ball State University and author of the book “Be Employed When You Graduate,” the app allows students to practice interviewing while recording and timing their answers. Students can review their answers to make sure they are prepared for a wide variety of questions, from basic to odd. And these can be shared with friends on Facebook for quick and easy feedback.
The Be Employed app also provides simple but comprehensive checklists “from the book that organizes all of the logistics and research information you need for a successful interview in a clean and efficient way,” says Huer.
Students may also read the entire book a chapter at a time directly in the app to review the information on the go (each available as an in-app purchase).
The new app is available via iTunes:

The book, released earlier this year, is based on five years of experience helping high achieving Ball State students in the Digital Corps find meaningful employment in the current economy. Huer covers everything from picking a major to negotiating the job offer.
Be Employed When You Graduate provides a system that students can use each year of school first to find an opportunity, then an internship, and eventually a job. Even though it covers a broad range of skills, it is concise, direct, and written in small digestible chunks.
