Anderson Considering Annexation of Solar Park Properties

Our partners at The Herald Bulletin report the utility has agreed to bring portions of the solar parks into the city limits.
The IMPA constructed a 60-acre, 8.2-megawatt solar park in 2017. Just over half of the acreage is currently within the city limits and the annexation proposal aims to bring the remaining 27 acres into the fold as well. The publication reports the IMPA is also seeking the voluntary annexation of 26.5 acres of a 7.8-megawatt solar facility into the city limit.
The Anderson City Council has passed two of three required readings of the two ordinances for the proposed annexations, according to The Herald Bulletin.
Additionally, the IMPA is currently building three new solar parks, all of which are expected to be operational by January. When complete, the solar parks will provide 39 megawatts of power and, the publication reports, nearly 8% of Anderson’s electrical needs will be powered by solar energy.
The three projects represent a total cost of nearly $34 million. The city has already approved a 10-year tax abatement on the equipment for the new solar parks.
