Amazon hiring thousands of seasonal workers

The online retail giant says the positions range from picking and packing to sorting and shipping, and employees can average more than $19 per hour.
Amazon says the positions are open to applicants from all backgrounds and experience levels.
The retailer is looking to hire more than 2,400 employees in the greater Indianapolis area, with the rest spread out throughout the state.
“Whether someone is looking for some extra money for a few months or a long-term career, the holidays are a great time for people to join Amazon, and many of our seasonal employees return year-after-year or transition into full-time roles,” Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations John Felton said in written remarks. “Those who choose to stay with us will find a lot of opportunities to grow their careers.”
Amazon has 14 fulfillment and sortation centers in Indiana, the majority of which are located in central Indiana with others located in Jeffersonville and South Bend. The state also has seven Amazon delivery centers.
Some of the open positions in select locations come with sign-on bonuses of up to $3,000.
The Indiana effort is part of an overall goal of hiring 150,000 full-time, part-time and seasonal workers throughout the country.
