In a letter to leaders at Indiana University, Purdue and IPFW, the IPFW Alumni Association Board of Directors detailed its opposition to the plans, which were approved by the IU Board of Trustees earlier this month.
The alumni board said IPFW’s biggest selling point for 50 years has been that "northeast Indiana residents can seamlessly attain a degree in higher education with a breadth of options in a single-enrollment university with two awarding institutions behind it."
The alumni board’s letter is addressed to the Purdue University Board of Trustees and Purdue President Mitch Daniels. Also copied were IU President Michael McRobbie, IPFW Chancellor Vicky Carwein, the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership’s Regional Opportunities Council, IPFW Senate Presiding Officer Jeffrey Malanson, Speaker of the Indiana University faculty of IPFW Andy Downs and Speaker of the Purdue University faculty of IPFW Mark Masters.
The Purdue board is expected to vote on the campus realignment during its regular meeting scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
