Officials say the upgrades at the White County Airport will allow larger aircraft to land at the Monticello facility.
The project was funded through a $1.6 million grant from the Federal Aviation Authority and $500,000 from White County. The extension brings the runway from 4,000 feet to 5,000 feet.
White County Economic Development President Randy Mitchell says the project strengthens what is already a "tremendous asset to our community." He says the airport connects companies to their headquarters, suppliers and customers.
The ribbon-cutting is scheduled for Friday, November 6th at 2:30pm at the airport, which is located at 2222 South Airport Road in Monticello. Executives from Townsend Aviation, Inc., which operates out of the airport, will also take part.
