Subscribe NowCommunity Health Network says patients will today begin moving into the new patient tower at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis. The facility is part of a $175 million effort resulting in a new hospital to be completed in 2020.
"So much thought has been put into making the hospital functional not only for the staff that works here, but for patients that come in with their families,” said State Senator Mike Crider (R-Greenfield).
The tower includes a new emergency department and medical imaging, surgery, delivery and inpatient rooms. Community Health says the facility also includes enhanced privacy features and will operate under a "NIC2 model" allowing mothers to deliver and stay in the same room as newborns who require neonatal intensive care.
“It is as good as going anywhere else,” says Beth Zwickl, a local east side resident. “You are getting optimal care and you’re not feeling like you are being considered second to something else. You are really getting top-notch care.”
Construction on the tower began in the summer of 2018. The next phase of the project will include demolishing the old patient towers and building a new main entrance.
