Gregg Hiland

The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis has appointed Gregg Hiland president and chief executive officer. He has served as interim president and CEO since former CEO Derrick Stewart accepted a new role in the YMCA movement in September.

In his new role, Hiland will be responsible for leading the Y’s strategic plan for the future, including strengthening Central Indiana’s communities through key areas of healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.

“Gregg’s tenure with the Y and deep ties in the community will be critical in raising funds to provide access to YMCA programs for the underserved and underemployed, as well as for youth, veterans, cancer survivors and for those with chronic health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure,” said Andrew Buroker, chair of the YMCA Board of Directors.

“I look forward to continuing to work closely with our board and staff to strengthen, grow and position the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis as a premier provider of needed social services and healthy living in Central Indiana,” said Hiland.

Hiland’s career with the YMCA spans 31 years. Prior to serving as interim president and CEO, Hiland served as senior vice president and chief operating officer for seven years, with direct responsibility for 13 facilities and more than 100 program sites across six Central Indiana counties. He is the immediate past chair of a group of COOs from 135 of the largest Ys in the U.S. and Canada.

Hiland has served globally as well. Following his graduation from DePauw University, Hiland served for nearly two years as a missionary in Sierra Leone, West Africa, and has led staff and volunteer delegations internationally.
