The center is designed to provide a variety of resources for parents and children, including financial literacy, mental health services and nutrition classes.
The center, which is located at the Anderson Branch YMCA in Anderson, is the fourth Family Resource Center in Indiana. It also features a food and supplies pantry, parent cafes, legal resources and peer recovery support services.
“The center is based on an innovative national model that co-locates resources, support programs and family activities under one roof to make access for parents easy,” said Susana Mariscal, director of the Strengthening Indiana Families Project and associate professor at Indiana University School of Social Work. “The program model is designed to provide the tools and resources needed for parents to create strong families for their children.”
The center is part of the Strengthening Indiana Families Project, which was established through a five-year, nearly $3 million Community Collaborations grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Administration for Children and Families, and the Children’s Bureau.
The other three centers are located in Delaware County, Grant County and Tipton County.
