Blackford County is ‘Open’ to Broadband Investment

The director of the Indiana Broadband Office says 2021 has been a record year for community applications to the Broadband Ready Community program. Scott Rudd says nearly 60 communities have taken part in the program that remove barriers in the path of broadband infrastructure investments, including Blackford County.

The state broadband office says county officials have taken the necessary steps, such as ordinances, to help welcome telecommunication companies.

“We have been working to find solutions for the county’s broadband issues for over five years. Becoming a Broadband Community fits in our comprehensive plan and our long-term goals and making Blackford County the best possible place it can be to live and work in,” said Blackford County Commissioner John Oxley.

The state says the designation could help further attract broadband investment, either through the private sector or potentially through Indiana’s Next Level Connections Broadband Grant program.
