The Indiana Rail Road Co. says it has begun construction on phase one of its intermodal expansion project.
The company expects to complete the three-part project in 2023. INRD says it recently acquired 12 acres of land adjacent to its current site which will allow to more than double the container yard facility.
The company says it moved 1,450 containers during its first year of operations in 2013. This year, it projects to move over 40,000 containers.
The Indiana Rail Road Co. is a privately-held, 250-mile railroad which serves southwest Indiana and eastern Illinois.
