According to data from the Indiana Gaming Commission, gamblers placed $216 million in wagers last month, resulting in $1.6 million in state taxes.
Analysts from PlayIndiana.com say while baseball saw most of the action, the start of the college football season and NFL preseason attracted attention.
“Even a little bit of football can make a big difference in a month,” said Eric Ramsey, analyst for the PlayUSA.com Network, which includes PlayIndiana.com. “The schedule was still relatively light compared to the fall, but it is a great sign that August brought a nice bounce in wagering.”
PlayIndiana says August 2021 wagering was up nearly 28% from the previous year. Indiana sportsbooks have been operational for two years.
