The decision, which comes in response to the surge in COVID-19 cases throughout the state, goes into effect Monday.
“The move is needed to alleviate some of the enormous pressure our care teams are under and to reserve inpatient space for those who need it most,” the health system said in a statement Thursday.
According to the state’s COVID-19 dashboard, 2,108 patients are hospitalized as of Wednesday, which is the highest number since late January.
IU Health says elective surgery patients are being notified of the change and will be rescheduled for about three weeks out.
