The South Bend Tribune reports the Elkhart County Redevelopment Commission has tentatively approved a $10 million dollar package to make improvements leading to a 100-acre parcel near the Indiana Toll Road, including a new round and utility improvements. The Elkhart County Board of Commissioners must still approve the spending, which would be financed through a TIF district.
The publication says the Economic Development Corp. of Elkhart County has been approached by an un-named company about the proposed logistics facility. The project would have a “high degree” of automation and would be about 900,000 square feet in size.
“I think the developer was attracted to the region because of our location between Indianapolis, Detroit and Chicago, our reputation for being able to complete large projects in pretty rapid fashion and business-friendly atmosphere,” said Chris Stager, chief executive officer of the Economic Development Corp. of Elkhart County.
Stager says if the project gets approved, construction would likely start this year. Click here to read the full story from the South Bend Tribune.
