IUPUI’s Informatics Diversity-Enhanced Workforce is benefiting from a $100,000 philanthropic investment to help 50 iDEW students study, train and take industry certification courses by the end of the summer, and to place 160 students in summer jobs.
High school students are able to participate in the program for several years while working in teams to present informatics projects tackling real-world issues that incorporate robotics, video games, mobile apps, internet of things and other IT trends. Students are able to earn professional IT certifications to prepare them for work or for two, or four-year academic paths.
“The success of the iDEW program depends on both its innovative computing curriculum and the breadth of co-curricular programs offered during the summer break to iDEW high school students. In that regard, this specific grant from JPMorgan Chase is critical for the success of the iDEW program,” said School of Informatics and Computing Senior Executive Associate Dean Mathew Palakal.
More than 120 iDEW students worked in IT positions in 2020, including at Cummins Inc., Purdue University and Kenzie Academy.
