HHC of Marion County Adopts Diversity Goals

Subscribe NowThe Health and Hospital Corp. of Marion County is implementing the goals and criteria for bidding projects that have been adopted by the city of Indianapolis and Marion County. The goals are designed to improve the use of minority-, women-, disabled-, and veteran-owned businesses in projects and services bid by HHC.
“Indianapolis’ diversity is one of our city’s greatest strengths,” said Paul Babcock, HHC president. “And uplifting underrepresented communities in Indianapolis is key to fulfilling the mission of the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Achieving these utilization goals along with our continued efforts to advance equity and inclusion within our organization will make HHC a stronger agency and help us to better serve our neighbors.”
The goals require the following portions of money spent by HHC to be utilized for the procurement of goods and services from:
- Minority-owned businesses – 15%
- Women-owned businesses – 8%
- Disabled-owned businesses – 1%
- Veteran-owned businesses – 3%
“The Board of the Health and Hospital Corporation is committed to establishing strong business partnerships with diverse-owned companies in our community,” said Carl Drummer, chair of the HHC Board of Trustees. “Being a leader on diversity in bidding will not only amplify the City of Indianapolis’ efforts to provide equitable opportunities for our neighbors but will also help to strengthen our community’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The HHC says the utilization standards apply to all dollars spent by HHC as well as the Marion County Public Health Department, Eskenazi Health, the Eskenazi Health Foundation, Long-Term Care, and Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services.
