Making Cities Livable Conference Begins in Carmel

Subscribe NowThe city of Carmel is hosting hundreds of visitors as the International Making Cities Livable Conference kicks off today. The annual event focuses on sharing best practices on how to improve the quality of life among communities, and the city says it is the first major event of its kind since the pandemic began.
The conference will be held at the Palladium and Hotel Carmichael in Carmel. The event has previously been held around the world in places such as Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, San Francisco and Portland, Oregon.
The city says the conference will feature speakers, workshops and networking activities to, among other goals, examine the “latest emerging tools and strategies to meet the new challenges.” The tools and strategies include financial mechanisms, new codes and design standards, new planning and design models, and the latest academic research findings.
This will be the first time the conference has been held in Indiana. Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard is a longtime participant in the IMCL and is a member of the organization’s board of stewards.
