The town says the center is expected to be a regional attraction for local and touring performances.
The center will include a 600-seat auditorium, providing a new entertainment attraction in downtown Plainfield.
“I am proud of our Council and Town leadership for taking a step back to analyze the potential impact the current pandemic could have on this project,” said Robin Brandgard, Town Council president. “What we found was that COVID-19 will not seem to impact the success of the Plainfield Performing & Fine Arts Center and that the region is supportive of such a project.”
The Performing and Fine Arts Center is the second phase of a two-phase downtown construction project that started last October. The town says a Government Center is currently under construction adjacent to the existing municipal building and scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2022.
The Town Council entered a Memorandum of Understanding with Hendricks County Arts Groups to establish a partnership for the development of the center. The Performing and Fine Arts Center will begin construction on the site where the current Municipal Building sits and will be connected to the new Government Center when completed.
