Election Security Key for New Secretary of State

Subscribe NowIndiana’s new secretary of state says her primary focus will be to ensure Indiana’s elections remain fair and secure. Governor Eric Holcomb on Tuesday appointed State Representative Holli Sullivan (R-Evansville) as the state’s 62nd secretary of state. She succeeds Connie Lawson, who last month announced plans to step down from the role in order to focus on her health and family.
During a news conference with the governor, Sullivan outlined her goals in her new role.
“The top priority for me is to safeguard Indiana’s record of free, fair and secure elections, ensuring that all Hoosiers know that their vote counts,” said Sullivan. “We will continue this ongoing effort of defending our elections, but I’m also very excited to take on and tackle the roles and other responsibilities of this office by ensuring that we protect Hoosiers from financial scams, financial hardships and fraud as well as continuing to cut red tape by excellent business services.”
Sullivan’s background includes eight years serving in the legislature in various capacities and leadership roles as well as experience in engineering.
“I’m thrilled Rep. Holli Sullivan has accepted this new leadership role for I know she will serve Hoosiers with the same intellect, integrity and energy she brought to the General Assembly,” said Holcomb. “Secretary of State Sullivan hits the ground running, building on the remarkable work Hoosiers have come to expect from the office during Connie Lawson’s historic tenure.”
Sullivan has served portions of Vanderburgh and Warrick counties as a state representative since 2014. Sullivan serves as Budget Subcommittee Chair on the House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees the creation of the state’s biennial budget.
“Holli Sullivan is a wonderful choice to succeed Secretary Lawson as our next Indiana Secretary of State,” said Senate President Pro Tem Rod Bray (R-Martinsville). “I believe she will continue holding the office to the highest of standards and maintain the strong culture of integrity Secretary Lawson has fostered during her distinguished tenure. I have always enjoyed working with our new Secretary of State in her capacity as a state lawmaker and look forward to continuing that collaboration as she takes on this new role.”
Sullivan also serves as vice chair of the House Rules and Legislative Procedures Committee, is a member of the House Elections and Apportionment Committee and a member of POWER, the House’s bipartisan women’s caucus. Additionally, she serves as the current vice chair of the Indiana Republican Party.
