Plans for a $128 million solar project in Knox County have been delayed after a ruling from the county’s area planning commission. Our partners at WTHI-TV report a decision on moving the project forward has been tabled until next month.

The commission heard more than two hours of presentations from Nebraska-based Tenaska, one of the developers of the project, as well as questions and comments from residents. 

Plans for the project were first announced last September. The 150-megawatt Ratts 2 Solar Project is slated to sit on 1,200 acres near Vincennes and Tenaska says it will bring about 250 construction jobs to the area.

However, it was not clear at the commission’s meeting whether those jobs would be awarded to local construction companies, according to WTHI. The company said it will provide written answers to as many questions as possible within two weeks, so they can be presented to the public prior to the next meeting on March 2.

If approved, construction on the project is slated to begin in early 2022 and take 12 to 18 months to complete.
