Indianapolis-based Energy Systems Network and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will Monday unveil the official autonomous race car that will be used in the inaugural $1.5 million Indy Autonomous Challenge. The vehicle will make its debut during a virtual news conference at the Consumer Electronics Show.

The Indy Autonomous Challenge is a prize competition featuring teams from nearly 40 universities around the world that will face off in the world’s first high-speed, head-to-head autonomous race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in October.

As part of the challenge, the teams will develop software that will enable them to race the cars at speeds of more than 200 miles per hour.

Conceptual designs for the race cars were first unveiled in December 2019. The cars will have the same chassis made by Dallara that are used in the Indy Lights Series. 

Officials from ESN, Penske Entertainment Corp., IMS and Dallara will be on hand for the unveiling. Throughout the four-day CES event, ESN and IMS will also host spotlight sessions on autonomous racing and commercialization, as well as innovative technology in motorsports.
