The Season of Hope fundraiser comes after the network set a record for the number of Hoosier organ donors in a calendar year.
The foundation make the fundraiser, which runs through December 20, virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced several in-person events to be canceled throughout the year.
The funds raised through the event will support grief resources provided by the Indiana Donor Network, including a Donor Hero Camp for children, medications needed for transplant recipients, and educational scholarships.
Last month, the state’s federally-designated organ recovery organization announced it had made it possible for 667 lifesaving organs to go to patients on the national transplant waiting list as of October 12. That beats the previous record of 665 set for all of 2019.
“This record-breaking year is possible because of the generosity of Hoosier organ donors and their families,” said Kellie Hanner, chief executive officer of the Indiana Donor Network. “By saying yes to donation, they are saving and healing more lives than ever before. We are grateful to these individuals and their families, and together with our hospital and transplant center partners, we are committed to ensuring these lifesaving gifts continue to reach those who need them most.”
Hanner will appear this weekend on Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick to talk more about how the organization’s strategy helped move organ donations forward.
