The career resources website says it ranked more than 1,300 cities based on criteria including rent costs, home price, and laptops and desktops per household, among others.
The ranking cites Fishers’ short drive from Indianapolis, affordable housing at about $1,200 per month, and its strong technology infrastructure as the factors earning it the No. 1 spot. Gahanna, Ohio took the No. 2 spot followed by Urbandale, Iowa in third.
The ranking was also based on broadband internet access and existing remote workers.
Zippia says nearly 9% of workers in Fishers currently work remotely, more than almost anywhere else in the country.
The ranking’s criteria falls into two categories: affordability and feasibility. For affordability, the company says it looked at median rent and home cost. The percent of homes with broadband internet and at least one laptop or desktop per household was used to determine feasibility.
According to the company, data indicates that workers enjoy the flexibility and freedom of remote work. The company says 63% of workers currently working remote prefer remote roles in the future.
Zippia says data for its ranking came from the Census’ American Community Survey.
