Purdue’s Union Club Hotel Nears Completion

Subscribe NowMerrillville-based White Lodging Inc. will hold a job fair Friday for people interested in working in the newly renovated Union Club Hotel at Purdue University. The hospitality company has also announced some of the new amenities that will unveiled at the grand reopening set for August.
The company says it will have three new places to eat and drink in West Lafayette.
The 8Eleven Modern Bistro will open in the former Welcome Center at Purdue Memorial Union. The name is inspired by two NASA missions: Gemini 8 and Apollo 11 – both commanded by Purdue alumnus, Neil Armstrong.
White Lodging has also created the Boiler Up Bar, a whiskey bar, that will also offer select items from the 8Eleven menu.
There is also a new coffee house that will offer artisanal baked goods. Leaps Coffee & Artisan Pastries is named after the university’s Giant Leaps program which marked Purdue’s 150th anniversary.
“These new concepts are going to bring additional energy, experienced staff, and great food and drink to the Union Club, the campus and the surrounding community,” said Jake Cotter, restaurant general manager.
White Lodging has also hired Chef AJ Buchanio will oversee all of the culinary offerings at the property.
Buchanio most recently served as research and development chef at White Lodging. He also served as the chef de cuisine at Brush Creek Luxury Ranch, which is managed by White Lodging
The hotel is holding a job fair June 12 from 4-8 p.m. for positions at the restaurant, bar and coffee shop.
