Coronavirus Puts Hold on Terre Haute Projects

Subscribe NowTerre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett says the coronavirus has pushed back some of the city’s major projects and has put a hold on growth. The mayor tells our partners at WTHI-TV the flow of money in the community has slowed down tremendously as many people stay home to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Work on several city projects, including the Vigo County Jail, Terre Haute Convention Center, and casino, has been pushed back. Mayor Bennett said that while these are times no one has seen before, he’s very optimistic that Terre Haute will bounce back quickly. The mayor said the only way to beat the virus is by listening to experts and practicing social distancing.
“I still think the fundamentals are good right here in our community, get through this these tough next few weeks with this virus, and I think you’re going to see still a lot of economic activity in our community,” said Bennett.
