IU Health to Begin Testing for COVID-19

Indiana University Health announced Friday it has the capability to test for the virus that causes COVID-19 through its pathology laboratory.

IU Health says the tests will be used to confirm patients have the virus and not to screen people for it.

High risk, seriously ill patients and health care workers who may have been exposed to the virus have priority in who gets the test.  

Healthy patients with mild symptoms are still encouraged to self-quarantine for up to 14 days.

The news release says the number of tests is limited, but it expects to increase the number of available tests.

“As more diagnostic testing resources become available, we will expand the number of patients we are able to test,” said IU Health President Dennis Murphy

IU says physicians must order the test after a patient has already completed a COVID-19 screening with a doctor or online through the IU Health virtual clinic.
