The University of Notre Dame has announced it has canceled IDEA Week 2020 and will not be rescheduled. It was set for April 18-25.

Event organizers concluded that such a concentration of people would be unsafe because of the current and projected status of the coronavirus pandemic.

The annual event celebrates innovation and incubation of startup ideas. Organizers expected 20,000 people from 30 states would be taking part in the event.

“While this decision will no doubt be disappointing to many of you, your safety, as well as the safety of our staff and community, is of utmost importance to us,” said organizers in a statement.

Trevor Noah, the current host of the Daily Show, was scheduled to appear as was the pop group OneRepublic.

Notre Dame says ticket holders will receive a full refund, but it may take some time due to the large number of events being cancelled across the country.

However, they do hope to complete all refunds by the end of April.
